ChatGPT Ads agency: we run the channel inside your own OpenAI account
Most ChatGPT ads agencies are paid-search shops that added a service page. We are a media buyer with twelve years in the funnel who has been operating this platform since self-serve opened — running context-hint strategy, bidding and measurement weekly, inside your OpenAI Ads Manager account so you keep the account, the data and the learnings. $1,499 a month flat, no markup on media, month-to-month.
The short version
- What you get: a media buyer with twelve years in the funnel running your ChatGPT Ads end to end — context-hint strategy, creative, bidding, measurement plumbing and weekly reporting.
- Where it runs: inside your OpenAI Ads Manager account, on your billing. You keep the account, the conversion history and the audience learning if you ever leave.
- What it costs: $1,499/month flat, covering up to $10,000 in managed monthly ad spend. No percentage of spend, no media markup, month-to-month with 14 days’ notice.
- Who it suits: DTC ecommerce, B2B SaaS and high-ticket services spending $500–$50,000 a month who want the channel operated properly, not experimented on.
What is a ChatGPT Ads agency?
A ChatGPT Ads agency is a done-for-you partner that plans, builds, launches and optimizes advertising campaigns inside ChatGPT on your behalf — covering context-hint strategy, ad creative, campaign structure in OpenAI’s Ads Manager, conversion measurement, bid management and reporting. It differs from a Google Ads agency in the core targeting skill: instead of researching keywords and match types, it writes and tests natural-language descriptions of the conversations where your product belongs, and OpenAI’s relevance-weighted auction decides whether your ad earns the placement.
What we actually run
Six workstreams. Every one of them is executed inside your own OpenAI Ads Manager account, so nothing we build is trapped behind our login.
| Workstream | What it covers | Cadence |
|---|---|---|
| Account & campaign architecture | Ad account setup and Persona verification, objective selection across CPM, CPC and oCPC, campaign-total vs daily budget structure, country and (in the US) state, DMA and ZIP targeting, platform targeting across iOS App, Android App and Web. | Kickoff, then as the account grows |
| Context-hint strategy | Research and writing of the natural-language hints that decide which conversations you appear in. One ad group, one intent. Typically 5–15 hints per ad group, rewritten against delivery data rather than left to rot. | Weekly |
| Creative production | Headlines written to the format’s real character budget, descriptions at multiple angles, product-feed copy where a catalog is connected, and landing-page recommendations that match the promise made in-conversation. | Fortnightly test cycle |
| Measurement plumbing | OpenAI Pixel install and debug-mode validation, Conversions API for server-side events, automatic advanced matching, dynamic URL parameters and macros, GA4 reconciliation, and view-through reporting where the account is eligible. | Before spend, then audited monthly |
| Bidding & budget management | Choosing between Maximize results and Manual: Max bid per ad group, conversion-event configuration for oCPC, pacing against daily minimums, and reallocating budget across ad groups as the winners separate. | Weekly, with mid-week checks |
| Reporting | A weekly readout in plain English: spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, avg CPC, avg CPM, conversions, cost per conversion, plus which hints won and which got cut. CSV exports on request, no vanity dashboards. | Weekly |
The August 2026 platform, operated properly
ChatGPT Ads shipped more in the last month than most channels ship in a year. Several of these controls are live in Ads Manager right now and are still absent from most agency service pages — which is a fair proxy for whether anyone there has logged into the platform recently.
Maximize results bid strategy
Maximize results lets ChatGPT Ads set and adjust bids automatically, optimizing toward your selected campaign goal to get the most results from your budget. It is now selected by default for eligible new ad groups; the alternative is Manual: Max bid in the ad group’s bid strategy section. The honest caveat, and OpenAI states it plainly: Maximize results prioritizes result volume and does not guarantee delivery against a specific CPA, CPC or ROAS target. If you have a hard efficiency ceiling, manual bidding is still the right tool. Deciding which of your ad groups belongs on which strategy is judgement work, and it is exactly the kind of judgement a retainer should be buying you.
Platform targeting
The campaign dialog now carries a Platforms multi-select: iOS App, Android App and Web (Web covers both desktop and mobile web). This matters more than it looks. If your checkout is punishing on mobile, or your B2B demo form realistically only converts on desktop, you have been paying for impressions you could not convert. One caveat to hold in mind when you read the numbers back: Insights currently group device reporting into Mobile and Desktop, and mobile web is counted under Mobile, so platform targeting is finer-grained than platform reporting for now.
View-through conversions
Ads Manager now reports one-day view-through conversions — shown as VTA (1d) — at campaign, ad group and ad level. A view-through conversion is counted when someone converts within one day of an eligible ad impression and no qualifying click receives credit for the same conversion; where both an impression and a click qualify, the click wins. Three things to be disciplined about: view-through is reported separately from the main Conversions column, it does not feed CPA, bidding, billing or conversion optimization, and the one-day window is fixed and independent of your click-through window. No Pixel or Conversions API changes are needed to receive it. Treat it as directional evidence of upper-funnel contribution, never as a number to add to your conversion total — an agency that quietly sums the two is inflating its own scorecard.
WorkMagic and the measurement partner stack
You can now connect ChatGPT Ads to WorkMagic to see performance alongside your other channels and send conversion signals back to OpenAI through the Conversions API. That closes the loop that has made this channel hard to defend in a blended-CAC review: server-side conversions going back in, cross-channel context coming out. We set the connection up and, more importantly, we make sure the event names actually match — the single most common reason a conversion column sits stubbornly at zero.
New markets: Brazil, Mexico, and Europe next
ChatGPT Ads are live in Brazil and Mexico, and OpenAI has said the platform expands to 31 European countries. Ads Manager itself is currently available to advertisers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Minimum daily budgets are set per billing currency — $25 USD, £15 GBP, 40 BRL, 150 MXN, 25 AUD, 25 CAD, 25 NZD, 2,500 JPY and 25,000 KRW. India appears in OpenAI’s minimum-spend table at 725 INR but is not yet listed as available in Ads Manager, which is usually the shape of a market about to open.
Why this section exists
Read three competing ChatGPT ads agency pages and count how many mention Maximize results, platform targeting or VTA (1d). The channel is eleven weeks past its self-serve launch of these controls. If a prospective agency’s page still describes a CPM-only pilot, you are about to pay a retainer for someone to learn on your budget.
Who this works for
ChatGPT Ads reward businesses where the buyer describes a problem before they name a product. That is the whole thesis of the channel, and it is why it does not suit everyone equally.
- DTC ecommerce — especially considered purchases with a research phase: supplements, skincare, home goods, gear. A connected product feed compounds the advantage, and feed quality becomes media performance.
- B2B SaaS — where buyers describe a workflow they are trying to fix. Longer cycles mean measurement discipline matters more than raw volume, and the oCPC objective plus Conversions API is the setup that survives a pipeline review.
- Startups — where the appeal is a cheap channel before incumbent budgets arrive, and the discipline is running a test sized to tell you something within 60 days.
- High-ticket services — consultancies, clinics, legal and financial services, where one closed client repays a quarter of media.
- Agencies — reselling ChatGPT Ads to your own clients without funding a learning curve on live accounts.
Who it does not suit yet: pure impulse-buy commodity products with no research phase; businesses whose entire market sits outside the nine countries where Ads Manager is live; and anyone who needs a channel to be profitable in week one. This is an early channel with genuinely cheap attention, and the cost of that is a learning period. We will tell you on the call if we think you are in this group rather than take the retainer.
How to evaluate any ChatGPT Ads agency
Six questions separate operators from repositioned Google Ads shops. Ask them of us and of everyone else you shortlist — the answers should be specific, not reassuring.
| Question to ask | What a good answer sounds like | Context Hints |
|---|---|---|
| Whose ad account does the media run through? | Yours. You keep billing, conversion history and audience learning if the relationship ends. | Yours — OpenAI billing direct |
| Is there a markup on media? | A flat management fee, disclosed. Percentage-of-spend quietly rewards them for spending more of your money. | None. $1,499/month flat |
| Who actually operates the account day to day? | A named person with platform hours, not a pod you meet once at pitch. | Tarun, personally |
| What is the contract term? | Month-to-month while the channel is this young. Twelve-month lock-ins transfer all the risk to you. | Month-to-month, 14 days’ notice |
| Have you spent on this platform, or on Google? | Real campaign screenshots, real hint iterations, real losses. “We are ChatGPT Ads ready” is not spend experience. | Live accounts, shown on the call |
| How do you report view-through? | Separately from click-through conversions, never summed into one number. | Reported separately, always |
What it costs
Published, because quote-gating a price is a choice about which customer you want. Most specialist ChatGPT ads and GEO agencies quote roughly $3,000 to $12,000 a month, and premium growth shops set higher minimums still. We serve the segment beneath that: operators running $500 to $50,000 a month who need answers this week.
| Tier | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| measure.co | from $89/month | AI-visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity — citation rate, share of voice, competitor benchmarking. Standalone; works whether or not you buy media. |
| White-Glove ChatGPT Ads | $1,499/month | The full managed service described above, up to $10,000 in managed monthly ad spend. Media billed by OpenAI directly to you, with no markup. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Higher spend, multiple connected OpenAI Ads accounts, SOC 2 Type II diligence pack, MSA, DPA and net-30 invoicing, dedicated team, BI export. |
Ad spend is always separate and always yours: you pay OpenAI directly, we charge only the management fee. Full detail is on the pricing page.
The first 30 days
- Days 1–3 — audit and access. We review your existing account (or open one), verify billing, and audit measurement before a dollar moves. Pixel installed, events firing, event names matched to the campaign’s configured conversion. Most accounts fail this step and never find out.
- Days 4–7 — architecture and hints. Campaign objectives chosen, ad groups built on the one-group-one-intent rule, first context-hint sets written, platform and location targeting set deliberately rather than left at default.
- Days 8–14 — launch and learn. Live on a daily budget so pacing stays observable. Bid strategy chosen per ad group. First readout at day 10 — delivery and hint performance, not conversions, which take 24–48 hours to attribute and longer to mean anything.
- Days 15–30 — cut and compound. Losing hints removed, winning intents split into their own ad groups, creative angles tested against the winners, budget reallocated. By day 30 you have a channel with a shape, and an honest read on whether it deserves more money.
In-house, freelancer, or agency
| In-house | Freelancer | Context Hints | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | Salaried time | $500–$2,500 | $1,499 flat |
| Platform-specific spend experience | Rare — the channel is months old | Varies wildly | Live accounts |
| Measurement setup | Usually the weak point | Usually out of scope | Audited before launch |
| Weekly hint iteration | Falls off after month two | Depends on retainer size | Contracted cadence |
| Knowledge stays with you | Yes | No | Yes — your account, your data |
In-house is genuinely the right answer if you already have a paid-search operator with spare capacity and the discipline to rewrite hints every week. If that describes you, take our step-by-step playbook and run it yourself — it is free and it holds nothing back. Hire us when the weekly cadence is the thing that keeps slipping.
ChatGPT Ads agency FAQ
What does a ChatGPT Ads agency do?
A ChatGPT Ads agency plans, builds, launches and optimizes advertising campaigns inside ChatGPT on your behalf. In practice that means six workstreams: account and campaign architecture in OpenAI’s Ads Manager, context-hint research and writing, ad creative, conversion measurement (Pixel, Conversions API, advanced matching), bid and budget management across CPM, CPC and oCPC objectives, and weekly reporting. The skill that distinguishes it from a Google Ads agency is context-hint strategy — writing natural-language descriptions of the conversations where your product belongs, rather than researching keywords and match types.
How much does a ChatGPT Ads agency cost?
Specialist ChatGPT Ads and GEO agencies commonly quote $3,000 to $12,000 per month, with premium growth agencies setting higher minimums and some shops charging a percentage of managed spend instead. Context Hints charges a flat $1,499 per month covering up to $10,000 in managed monthly ad spend, with no percentage of spend and no markup on media. Ad spend is billed by OpenAI directly to you and is always separate from the management fee.
Who can run my ChatGPT ads for me?
Context Hints runs them — specifically Tarun Kapoor, who has twelve years of media buying across GroupM, WPP, Ogilvy & Mather and Neil Patel Digital, and has personally owned media for Nestlé, Sage, Qualcomm, Aetna, Weight Watchers, Chubb and Novotel. You are not handed to a junior account manager after the pitch. Book a 30-minute discovery call and we will tell you honestly whether managed service makes sense at your budget yet.
Do I keep ownership of my ChatGPT ad account?
Yes, and this is worth insisting on with any agency you consider. All media runs through your own OpenAI Ads Manager account on your own billing. If the relationship ends you keep the account, the conversion history, the campaign learnings and the audience data. Agencies that run your media through their account are holding your performance history hostage — ask the question before you sign, not after.
Is there a minimum ad spend for ChatGPT Ads?
OpenAI sets a minimum daily budget per billing currency rather than a platform-wide minimum commitment: $25 USD, £15 GBP, 40 BRL, 150 MXN, 25 AUD, 25 CAD, 25 NZD, 2,500 JPY and 25,000 KRW. In practice we recommend starting at a daily budget rather than a campaign-total budget, because a campaign-total budget is a total spending limit, not a pacing control — it is not distributed evenly across your campaign dates and can be consumed quickly when your ads match a lot of eligible conversations.
What is the Maximize results bid strategy?
Maximize results is a bid strategy that lets ChatGPT Ads automatically set and adjust bids on your behalf, optimizing toward your selected campaign goal to get as many results as possible from your budget. It is now selected by default for eligible new ad groups, and the alternative is Manual: Max bid in the ad group’s bid strategy section. Important limitation: it prioritizes result volume and does not guarantee delivery against a specific CPA, CPC or ROAS target, so if you have a hard efficiency ceiling, manual bidding remains the right control.
Can I control which ChatGPT surfaces my ads appear on?
Yes. Platform targeting is available in the campaign dialog as a Platforms multi-select covering iOS App, Android App and Web, where Web includes both desktop web and mobile web. It is useful when conversion quality differs sharply by device — a punishing mobile checkout, or a B2B demo form that realistically only converts on desktop. Note that Insights currently group device reporting into Mobile and Desktop, with mobile web counted under Mobile, so targeting is currently more granular than reporting.
Are view-through conversions included in my conversion total?
No, and any agency that adds them together is inflating its scorecard. Ads Manager reports one-day view-through conversions separately as VTA (1d) at campaign, ad group and ad level. A view-through is counted when someone converts within one day of an eligible impression and no qualifying click receives credit for the same conversion — if both qualify, the click gets credit. View-through data is supplemental: it does not affect CPA, post-click conversion rate, bidding, billing or conversion optimization, and the one-day window is fixed.
Which countries can run ChatGPT Ads?
Ads Manager is currently available to advertisers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. ChatGPT Ads went live in Brazil and Mexico recently, and OpenAI has said the platform expands to 31 European countries. India appears in OpenAI’s minimum-spend table at 725 INR without yet appearing in the availability table. If you are outside these markets you can register interest with OpenAI, and we would rather tell you to wait than sell you a retainer you cannot spend against.
Should I hire a ChatGPT Ads agency or run it in-house?
Run it in-house if you already have a paid-search operator with spare capacity and the discipline to rewrite context hints weekly — the self-serve Ads Manager is built for direct operation and our free playbook covers the whole sequence. Hire an agency when the weekly cadence keeps slipping, when measurement is the part nobody owns, or when you want a named operator accountable for the number rather than a shared internal to-do.
How is a ChatGPT Ads agency different from a GEO or AEO agency?
A GEO (generative engine optimization) or AEO (answer engine optimization) agency works on organic visibility — whether ChatGPT mentions and cites your brand unprompted when someone asks for a recommendation. A ChatGPT Ads agency buys paid placement inside the conversation through OpenAI’s Ads Manager. They are complementary and they answer different questions. We do both sides: managed ads here, and AI-visibility tracking through measure.co.
How quickly can my first ChatGPT Ads campaign go live?
Typically within seven to ten days of kickoff, and the pacing is deliberate. Days 1–3 are audit and access — measurement verified before any spend, because a conversion event that does not match the campaign’s configured event will silently report zero and will not backfill once corrected. Days 4–7 are campaign architecture and the first context-hint sets. Launch follows on a daily budget so pacing stays observable. Accounts already verified with a working Pixel can move faster.
Do you work with ecommerce, SaaS, or service businesses?
All three, with the caveat that ChatGPT Ads reward businesses where the buyer describes a problem before naming a product. DTC ecommerce with a considered purchase and a connected product feed, B2B SaaS where buyers describe a workflow they want fixed, and high-ticket services where one closed client repays a quarter of media are the three profiles that work best. Pure impulse-buy commodity products with no research phase are the weakest fit, and we will say so on the call.
What is your contract term — can I cancel?
Month-to-month with 14 days’ notice to end. No minimum term and no lock-in. Twelve-month commitments are common among ChatGPT Ads agencies and they transfer all the risk of an eleven-week-old feature set onto you. Because media runs through your own OpenAI Ads account, leaving costs you nothing but the notice period — you keep the account, the data and the learnings.
